Kindle vs Nook

Postby jcrcccwc » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:06 am

Okay... so we are entering the electronic age of e-books for my teen. We have been investigating both of these. Could anyone share which they have and why they chose the one they did. Pros and cons.

Thanks.

I have the SONY eBook Reader and I love it. It was less expensive than the Kindle. The Kindle has a really restrictive operating system, where the Sony Reader does not . Also, since we live in Wake County, I can get all kinds of ebooks to read, from the Wake County Library, for FREE!!

Is there a reason that your son needs one at this time? I love mine, but it is an item that I baby.

I've had a kindle since last holiday season and I love it. It is a very functional reader and it does one thing and one thing only: it displays books for reading. That's it and that's what I like best. If I had a full-color tablet I would end up surfing the web, checking my facebook and doing everything but reading. The new Kindle starts at $79 and looks great. Plus, amazon.com has a huge selection of free titles, mainly classics, that you can download for free.

I have the kindle and LOVE it. There are always free
Books to download, from classics to new releases. Here is a great site
That lists the freebies. http://www.ereaderiq.com/free/
I can't compare readers as I have no exp with the others
Good luck!

I know that you can easily hack the Nook color without breaking it because you can use a simm card to boot up to make it a fully functional Android tablet then remove it when you want the plain old Nook back. Also Barnes and Noble have never seemed to care if people did hack the device.
Not sure of how you could do that with the Kindle Fire without breaking it because you cannot put a simm card in it, so that would mean that you would be hacking the device directly.
I've also been reading on the tech rags that Amazon is starting preventive measures so that the device cannot be hacked and if that fails they may go after people legally
