Which Eggs?

Postby rmshill » Thu Jan 28, 2010 8:55 am

My family eats a ton of eggs and I am looking for the healthiest eggs. Which ones do you buy? I heard pastuered are the best? Where can you buy these?

I buy pastured eggs from the local farmer's markets. Last year, we bought eggs from Steve and Linda of S&L Farms (Louisburg) at the Midtown (North Hills) Farmer's Market.

Since the North Hills market is closed for the winter, I'm currently buying eggs from In The Red Farmstead (Chinquapin) at the State Farmer's Market in Raleigh. They both have great pastured eggs - deep colored yolks, full of flavor! Price ranges from $3.50-$4.50/dozen. Well worth it!

Not sure where you live, but we've started buying (and really liking) Latta's Egg Ranch eggs at Weaver street market. They're from Hillsborough, free range and hand gathered. I was really impressed with the price -- I think its about $4 for 18 large eggs. They aren't organic, but I am willing to support a local small business (it costs $$$ to get that organic certification!), and the eggs taste delicious :)
